`~_`~_ falling leaves`~_`~_

With such time moving so quickly, I’m going to spare the total update for it’s too daunting to try to recapitulate all the films, all the books, all the music, and all the days gone by in the life of a quirky misplaced man who just wants to contribute a bit more to society, let alone his actual thoughts/critique of those works.
Lemme start by saying that U2 in Philips Arena this past Saturday night was an inspirational show whose memory will stick with me like Colorado Kind to a hookah. My sis got me bomb seats that we filled just before satiating that thirst pang I receive on Saturday nights with Gentlemen’s Jack. I was with my buddy Brian--who is a badass and has exposed and bestowed upon me some seriously fantastic music that I would've never heard...who better to roll with to U2--but my experience was completely unique. “Bloody Sunday” zapped my heart with more emotions than my mother could feel in her menopausal zenith…(Bono’s interjection as the snare rolled it’s rage) “this is your song now...I can't believe the news today...” Most all the classics were played, “With or Without You” upon the first encore and “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” on the second…yeah, 2 encores enhanced the unparalleled performance for me. Like the experience of life, whichever you may cite, there are no words to find even the world in which you feel what you feel at that moment; so I’ll say no more and hold it dear to me.

Literature: I now know why Kafka is such a classic. His writing has nothing of a classic nature about it, except its individuality. Dark, yet humorous, telling and still every turn of the page you find yourself quarreling to see something that you’ve missed. Like gasping for breath after resurfacing from the depths of aquatic recreation, you swim across the evidential words to the story’s concrete existence, and at the same time he leaves so much for your imagination to take upon the valve, tie, and let fly into celestial blue skies. My indulgence spanned “The Trial”, “Metamorphosis”, “The Penal Colony”, and many other short stories.

Tom Robbins is a newfound favorite of mine that reminds me how entertaining literature should be. His quick wit that has Borges-like depth and precision the metaphoric joke throughout leaves you cautious to read in public. I’ll only say that a few females have told me they were turned off by his constant sexual references…I found them rather provocative of life and instilling creative yens to the natural embrace of how we came about…but I am just a man. The only two I can recommend—the first more than the second—are “Still Life with Woodpecker” and “Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas”.

My buddy Mark showed me such a great time in NYC, and originally that was going to be the inspiration for another update, but the foliages fluttered their falling, colors continued changing, and time turned in torrent to late November. Myriad kudos to my mate Mark in Brooklyn; you showed me a gargantuan good time and rejuvenated my curious ardor of life. Gobbled up a good bit of the reading material you passed my way and am so happy that the numbing the south can swab can be remedied by a simple solution…I’ll buy The Economist whenever and wherever I feel bored.

Music…ahhh, music: Old school vibes; I’ve been listening to Jamiroquai lately…what a great artist. The Beatles also have been constantly on my ipod; Past Masters, Abbey Road, Live at the BBC, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band…front to back albums that have me thinking how revolutionary they were in their time…parents actually thought them outrageous and provocative; what a message!
New stuff is abound with the likes of The Bees, Fruit Bats, Crystal Skulls (Hussy is such a great tune you have to get up and dance to…”what gets you high, beggin’ to try, lick the edge of the bone dry? Blowin’ kisses he just misses, love is harder at a distance.”), Crooked Fingers, Low, and The Corral. Iron and Wine is a band whose disc I checked out randomly from a library and just fell in love with; “Our Endless Numbered Days” is the perfect album to sit in the park and sip mate, chill on a blanket, or just watch passersby…provided it’s not too cold. I went to see one of my all-time favorite bands at The Earl in Atlanta, Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah and couldn’t have been more impressed with their vivacity and affection for the sound they create. The pianist was actually jumping up and down with a smile my nephew might don upon seeing his uncle for the first time in over a year…his heart was filled with elation and it poured over the stage onto me and those around. In NYC, I saw The Muggswho left me with great impressions, thus purchasing the “Paper Scissors Rock” album. Postal Serviceand Notwist are great bands that Mark intro’d me to who are shuffling through the vehicle on the way to work. The Stars just rock out of this world and if you don’t have their music you should stop reading this and get to. I also just re-linked myself—more amicably—to The Killers who’ve got good vibes. I liked them better this go ‘round, admitting that all the buzz people were humming about them turned me off considerably. There’s so much more that I would put out there, but we all have our treasure box…I’ll keep some of the goodies to me’s self.

A final note: God Bless John Murtha for having the balls to step up and do what every Democrat (and Republican for that matter) should have done months ago; put forth legislation (http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/pa12_murtha/pr051117iraq.html) with earnest emotional conviction to support it and push it upon the floor without clemency. I was elated to turn on c-span and see the House of Representatives look more like the House of Commons; people were actually out of their seats, disturbed, riled and ready to be heard…”shove order up your arse chairman”. It’s currently being debated and I for one U.S. of American citizen couldn’t be happier with the idea that we’re finally rousing from the nightmarish sleep that’s overcome us…finally the leaves are falling.
